Abstract

The article is devoted to some medieval religious monuments of the Tovuz region of the Azerbaijan Republic. It is noted that the monument "Torpag Gala" was the first medieval urban-type settlement on this territory. The first medieval city of Hunan in Caucasian Albania was localized in this monument. One of the monuments found in the settlement of Torpag gala is the Albanian Christian church. From the historical and archaeological research of existing archaeological sites it becomes known that the territory of the modern Tovuz region, as well as in different historical periods, and in the first tables of the Middle Ages was a densely populated region. What contributed to the geographical location, the presence of fertile soils, other natural resources, passing important trade and caravan routes through the region, etc. These factors predetermined the presence of numerous settlements in the Tovuz region of the first medieval period. It should also be noted that many monuments on the territory of the Tovuz region of the first medieval period - tombstones, Christian temples, numerous settlements, from an archaeological point of view, still subject to detailed study.
