Condition and trends of development of the market of consumer goods in Ukraine

Abstract

The article deals with the processes of functioning of the consumer goods market in Ukraine, highlights the main problems and factors affecting the state and development of the consumer market. Some groups of factors, including demographic, socio-economic, geographical and climatic, psychological have been given. It has been determined that the main indicator characterizing the state and development of the consumer market is the turnover of retail trade which includes the retail trade turnover of legal entities, i.e. retail trade enterprises and natural persons-entrepreneurs whose main economic activity is retail trade. The analysis of the dynamics of retail trade turnover of enterprises of retail trade in current and comparable prices for the period 2010-2018 has been made. The structure of retail trade turnover of retail trade enterprises by types of goods has been investigated, conclusions concerning the insignificance of changes and direction which occurred during the analyzed period have been proposed. The saturation of the Ukrainian consumer market has been analyzed. The statistical grouping of regions of Ukraine by the level of retail turnover per capita for the period of 2018 has been conducted, three groups of regions: low, medium and high levels of this indicator have been identified. Based on the results of the grouping it has been concluded that there is a significant differentiation of regions of Ukraine in terms of retail turnover per capita and there is a significant difference in the ability of the population of the regions to meet the demand for consumer goods. Elasticity ratios to estimate the relationship between retail turnover per capita and disposable income have been calculated. The ways and conditions of activation of processes in the consumer market of Ukraine have been determined.
