Abstract

The paper examines the conceptual approaches to defining the essence of the concept of economic efficiency and highlights its various types. The study shows the features of the institutional approach to the analysis of the effectiveness of modern economic systems and defines the criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of their operation. The study highlights a comparative analysis of the main methods of measuring the efficiency of modern economies and proves feasibility of a comprehensive methodology for measuring efficiency through the consistent application of the rating approach and regression analysis of the institutional environment. Analysis of the institutional effectiveness of the economic system of Ukraine led to the conclusion about diversity of components of the institutional environment and asynchrony of their functioning. The results offer a set of strategic directions of increasing institutional efficiency of social and economic system of Ukraine, taking into account the principle of complementarity of institutions on the basis of recognition of the priority objectives of sustainable development.
