Abstract

The article analyzes the activity of the merchant class of the South of Ukraine at the beginning of the 20th century, which was described on the pages of the Nikolayev daily periodical "Nikolayevskaya Gazeta". The publication describes the events of industrial, economic, political, public, charitable activities of the merchant class. The active participation of the estate in the formation and development of factories and plants, the construction of railways, the conduct of active social activities in the composition of the various societies that operated in the South of Ukraine at the beginning of the 20th century were determined. The merchant class was a politically active semi-privileged class of society, played one of the dominant roles in its development, took an active part in the activities of the authorities of the South of Ukraine. Established a role in the political life of the region. The participation of the merchant in the development of educational institutions is justified, and the charitable activities of the estate are revealed.
