Abstract

In the article the author analyzes the development trends and investment attractiveness of the agriculture of Ukraine. During the research it was found by the author that agriculture is one of the main sources of foreign currency flows to Ukraine, since it accounts for almost a half of the total exports of goods from Ukraine. The most important and most profitable export item of agricultural products of Ukraine is the export of grain crops, whose share is about a third. The author has established that in recent years the agriculture of Ukraine shows growing trends, this is an investment attractive sector of the economy and it has been successfully attracting foreign direct investments. Based on the results of the study the author made an assumption, that in case of attracting foreign direct investment in the agriculture of Ukraine in required amount Ukraine will have a significant increase in the development of the studied industry and economy of the country, as the global world population is growing, Ukraine has about a quarter of the world black soils reserves and significant unused agricultural potential, which in case of properly usage can lead Ukraine to leading position in world agriculture and significantly strengthen its image as the breadbasket of Europe and the world. However, Ukraine doesn’t attract foreign direct investment in the required amount for the following reasons: unstable military-political and economic situation in the country, which in turn leads to devaluation of the hryvnia; high cost of agricultural products due to devaluation of the hryvnia, low level of technology development, outdated equipment, lack of sufficient number of skilled personnel etc.; lack of risk management opportunities for investors due to the imperfection of the agricultural legislation, the judicial and executive system, as well as presence of corruption; incompleteness of the land reform.
