The urgency of studying the experience of using foreign countries to diversify the tools for implementation of the concept of sustainable development is due to the fact that this concept is today leading in shaping the socio-economic course of Ukraine. The article analyzes the positive results of the formation of the social components of the policy of sustainable development of the United States in terms of implementation of useful experience in Ukraine. The evolution of the US economic policy - from the liberal 1980s to the protectionist in the second decade of this century - has been traced, the principles of the country's environmental policy (balance of costs and profits in the mechanism of environmental regulation, healthy competition among environmental actors, environmental responsibility of state governments and municipal authorities) and sources of its provision; describes the effective tools of the American social security and labor market system, including insurance and federal social protection programs. It is determined that the methods and approaches adopted in the USA for environmental and social issues for the domestic development of sustainable development policy may be useful from the point of view of the introduction of elaborated tools of ecopolitics and mechanisms for solving social and economic problems at the regional level. After all, the United States and Ukraine have different starting conditions for the implementation of the concept of sustainable development. If the theoretical basis for addressing sustainable development issues for the US is the concept of a positive state of social protection and an economic-centered approach, under which the economic power of the state creates financial prerequisites for addressing social and environmental problems, then Ukraine with low economic potential is only approaching the introduction of the principles of the concept of basic needs.
