Abstract

The article is devoted to the history of the creation and launching of a synthetic rubber plant for the production of ethyl alcohol and artificial rubber, as well as increasing production capacity, increasing labor productivity, accepting and fulfilling socialist obligations of plant workers, upgrading the skills of engineers and technical personnel, launch history of individual workshops and installation of technical equipment. Production of artificial rubber is of great importance for the national economy, as it costs four times less than the production of natural rubber. For the first time, synthetic ethyl alcohol began to be produced at the plant on the basis of oil gas processing. In the mid-50s, the plant was equipped with the most modern equipment at the time, all production processes were automated. In 1955-57-ies started the construction of the second stage of the enterprise. The improvement of ethylene and ethanol production, which began in 1963, was completed in 1966. In the same year, the production of isopropyl alcohol was put into operation, in 1973, butyl rubber, in 1980-1981, nitrile latexes. The complex mechanization and automation of the main processes in the chemical industry were analyzed, the reconstruction of production processes was justified, which made it possible to increase labor productivity, improve product quality and reduce its cost, more efficiently use the existing capacity of the units, and facilitate manual labor. It has been substantiated that the chemical industry is a key factor in technical progress, improving labor productivity and improving the well-being of the people. In the national economy there is no such area where new achievements in chemistry would not be practically applied. The chemical center of Azerbaijan remains the city of Sumgait, where synthetic rubber, chemistry, superphosphate and impurity plants are located.
