The article deals with the definition of "innovation" and "social entrepreneurship". The main types of innovations and reasons for the development of a social enterprise in Ukraine are presented. The author identified and presented the basis of the premise of innovation in the social sphere. Approaches to the definition of innovations and social innovations are investigated; the preconditions of innovative development of enterprises are revealed; Specifics of social entrepreneurship and examples of its development in Ukraine and in the world are determined. The criteria for successful business of social enterprises in Ukraine are: social or ecological orientation of activity to solve specific social problems; profitable activity, self-sustainability and financial stability, which contributes to independence from external financing; reinvestment of income in business to solve social problems; innovative activity aimed at applying new approaches to solving a social problem; scalability and duplication; entrepreneurial approach.
