In this article the issues of the current state of non-traditional and renewable energy in Ukraine are discussed, as well as outlined possible prospects for the development of this industry. The main advantages of alternative energy can be attributed to their inexhaustibility and environmental cleanliness. The efficiency of the development of alternative energy sources depends primarily on the effectiveness of the regulatory and legislative framework, whose main objective should be to create favorable conditions for the domestic renewable energy market. At the current stage of development, Ukraine is actively involved in the process of using alternative energy sources and is making efforts to increase its annual growth rate. In the territory of Ukraine, in order to create the investment attractiveness of using clean energy sources in September 2008, the Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Establishing a Green Tariff" was adopted. Under this tariff, the state buys electricity generated by electricity utilities using alternative energy sources. In spite of all the benefits of the green tariff: benefits and a short payback period, the number of private households using alternative energy is growing at a moderate pace. Major reasons for suspending the development of alternative energy among private households are significant investments. For a faster increase in the number of entities using alternative energy sources it is necessary: public administration should develop, monitor and implement effective clean energy technologies for the further sustainable development of the country; to finalize the regulatory framework for the alternative energy market (creation of new mechanisms for stimulating companies and private households to develop alternative energy); to intensify banking programs for financing projects and alternative energy.
