Prospects of development of event-gastronomic tourism in Odessa as a tourist destination

Abstract

The article is devoted to the research of peculiarities of theoretical and practical aspects of event-gastronomic tourism. The world and national tendencies of development of event-gastronomic tourism have been presented. Attention is paid to the specific characteristics that determine the additional socio-economic benefits from the joint development of event and gastronomic tourism. The focuse is on the key positive factors influencing the development of event and gastronomic tourism in the region. The role of events and gastronomic tourism in the development of special tourist territories – tourist destinations, in particular regional ones (on the example of Odessa region and Odessa) has been determined. Attention is paid to the popular gastronomic events – gastronomic festivals. World and domestic mass gastronomic events have been characterized. It is noted that, despite the considerable potential in popularizing the unique tourist territory, the development of event-gastronomic tourism in the Odessa region and the city of Odessa is not receiving enough attention. In order to promote Odessa and the Odessa region as a tourist destination, the conceptual idea of the annual national gastronomic festival of Odessa cuisine and a comprehensive program of its promotion have been proposed. The key differences of the proposed event from the already existing gastronomic festivals of Odessa and Odessa region have been formulated, namely: formation of a recognizable event and gastronomic brand of a tourist destination, holding a festival of national scale. It is noted that the effect of the national festival of Odessa cuisine will serve as a basis for exploring aspects of further development and promotion of events and gastronomic events in Odessa and the Odessa region. The importance of conducting the economic impact assessment of the festival has been emphasized, as well as the methodological approach has been proposed. The ways of increasing the effectiveness of the proposed event among which the important role is given to the regional authorities in the implementation of policy of support and development of event and gastronomic tourism have been identified.
