The article analyzes the influence of demographic factors on the formation and development of human potential of the region. Considering that human potential is a major index of the economic growth, the need to monitor and identify trends in change is an urgent issue. The causal link between the impact of demographic factors on human potential and the overall development of a region is reflected in its socio-economic status. The research has been conducted on the example of the Odessa region, which is one of the developed regions of Ukraine with high human potential formed due to many factors. The central place among them belongs to demographic factors such as birth rates, death rates, population migration, the proportion of the working-age population in its total population as well as life expectancy. The general trends of population structure and movement have been revealed. In general, the tendencies are typical both for most regions of Ukraine and the Odessa region as well. They include the following: population decline, depopulation, significant migration movements both abroad and within the country. The impact of these trends adversely affects the formation of the region’s human potential. The main positive and negative tendencies of the dynamics of the demographic component and its influence on the formation of human potential of the Odessa region have been determined. It has been emphasized that the focus should be on creating conditions for expanded population reproduction and formation of young families, health issues to increase life expectancy and regulate migration processes at both national and regional levels. The directions of implementation of active demographic policy at the regional level which creates preconditions for further socio-economic development and formation of human potential have been offered.
