Abstract

Introduction. Today, both traditional banks and Fintech companies are participants in the payment market. Modern changes in the development of financial technologies affect the competitive position of banks and Fintech companies in the market of payment services, so there is a need to find their effective interaction, which determined the importance and relevance of the study. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to study banking competition in the market of payment services under the development of financial technologies (FinTech). This goal necessitated the solve of the following tasks: to determine the nature and features of modern competition in the market of payment services and to characterize the trends in the development of payment services in the context of digitalization in Ukraine. Results. Most banks and fintech companies choose cooperation instead of competition. Many high-tech companies have already become full participants in the financial services market and are increasingly choosing tactics of cooperation. It is increasingly difficult for banks to ignore fintech companies, cooperation with which can help maintain profitability in the new reality. More than 55% of the world’s largest banks cooperate with fintech-companies in a few areas, giving them the opportunity to develop their business and in return receive innovation. Banks need to finally accept the fact that their business model today is «open» and available for use by other market players. The best solution in this situation is to interact with fintech companies to form a competitive advantage in the range of services and the quality of their provision. More and more banks are forming service ecosystems around themselves with the help of fintech-companies. Conclusions. In the modern conditions in the field of banking, including payment services market, for traditional banks an additional competitive threat is the activities of FinTech firms, which are more flexible due to their small size and relative unregulated activities. This will mean improving in the meeting customer needs and expectations. However, this will require banks finding ways to cooperate with FinTech firms in order to maintain existing and create new competitive advantages.
