Abstract

Introduction. Innovation is one of the most important factors in the development of any country's economy. Unfortunately, their current state in Ukraine is insufficient, which makes it necessary to identify on a systematic basis the root causes of this situation and identify ways out of it. Appointment. The purpose of the article is to analyze the current level of innovative development in Ukraine and suggest ways to improve it. Results. The article conducts a comprehensive study of the state of innovation in Ukraine on the international ratings basis at the period of 2000-2020. The change dynamics of the Global Innovation Index of Ukraine and its components are analyzed. The indicator is compared with the values of European countries. Since the state and level of development of innovation activity of individual enterprises are influenced by general economic factors, the study considers the state of innovation in the country in general. The graphs illustrate the distribution of enterprises by types of innovation and the most innovative areas of economic activity. The factors which influenced the state of innovation processes at domestic enterprises during the last 20 years are identified. The dynamics of the number of enterprises engaged in innovation activity in Ukraine is studied on the basis of statistical data. In order to increase the specialization of the research objects, the share of specific industrial enterprises that implemented innovations in the total number of industrial enterprises of Ukraine and the share of sold innovative products in the total amount of sold products of industrial enterprises of our country were analyzed. The article provides a list of sources of funding for innovation in Ukraine and identifies the main shortcomings of the existing innovation policy. In the process of working on the article, the main problems that determine the current state of innovation in Ukrainian enterprises were identified. Conclusions. Based on the research, the author presents and substantiates recommendations on ways that would promote the innovation of national enterprises and expand the range of opportunities for the realization of their innovation potential. The conclusions provide an assessment of the current state of innovation in Ukraine and suggest options for its improvement.
