Abstract

The article considers author's interpretations of modern domestic and foreign scientists concerning the definition of the essence of the concept of of material flow. The purpose of the article is to establish the essence of the concept of «material flow» on the basis of systematization of scientific approaches to its interpretation. The study used a systematic approach and methods such as grouping, comparison, analysis, generalization. As a result of research of scientific literature on the chosen subject, namely interpretation of essence of the concept of a material stream offered by modern scientists, lack of unity of scientific views in this question is defined. Based on the analysis of scientific sources on the selected topic, two scientific approaches to determining the essence of material flow are identified: the emphasis on the movement of raw materials and the emphasis on the movement of material resources. To reveal the meaning of the concept revealed the main characteristics of material flows, identified by different authors, namely the dimensional characteristics, weight characteristics, physico-chemical characteristics, terms of insurance, financial (cost) characteristics, nomenclature, range, the length of the path, movement time, speed of movement. According to the results of systematization of the identified definitions and analysis of key characteristics of material flow, its essence is established. It is established that the material flow is the totality and movement of all material resources of the enterprise, such as raw materials, materials, products of work in progress, which belong to a certain time interval, consistently go through operations, becoming finished products.
