Abstract
Aim. The study determines the essence of the high-tech sector, interconnection of its constituent parts in the global economy
as a prerequisite for the development of the state's competitive policy. Methods. World-system methodology in its application to the
high-tech sector of the economy. Results and discussion. The necessity of dividing the products of the high-tech sector according
to the criterion of the object of sale is proposed. These objects are: materialized into innovative developments, which are products
of intellectual (innovative, informational) production of the R&D sector, i.e. represent intellectual property; and materialized into
goods as products of industrial production of industries specified by the World Bank. Such a division allows to clarify the essence
and structure of the high-tech sector of the world, to reveal the dynamics of its component parts, to understand the trends in the
development of both the high-tech sector of the world itself and its immanent structural parts. The study shows different strategies
for the development of various parts of the high-tech sector, which are used by countries of different levels of development. Further
searches in this direction can enrich the research of the high-tech sector both on the basis of the sectoral approach and on the basis
of country studies or structural and institutional. Recommendations have been developed to determine the development trends of
parts of the high-tech sector and to substantiate the competitive strategies of firms and the competitive policy of the state.
