Abstract

The purpose of the study is to substantiate the theoretical foundations of the definition of international settlements in the system of international economic relations. When writing the article, a system-analytical method was used; grouping method - to systematize data. The importance of determining the essence of the definition of international settlements and their significance for the development of foreign economic activity of business entities is outlined. The need for the formation of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the system of international settlements in the system of international economic relations is determined. Approaches to defining the concept of international settlements found in the economic literature are analyzed. Based on the analysis, the author proposed a definition of the concept of "international settlements", which reflects the needs of the modern practice of international settlements. Grounded criteria for structuring international settlements in terms of individual features: by the essence of the obligation; according to the form of repayment of obligations; by subject of payment; by the initiator of the payment; by source of funds; according to the substance of the agreement; on the economic basis of payment; according to the form of calculations. Systematized elements of the system of international settlements, which includes subjects; objects of settlement relations and international settlements; fund transfer mechanism. The priority areas of optimization of international settlements are determined. The practical significance of the study lies in determining the essence of international settlements in the system of international economic relations.
